Strenghtening medical skills training at pre-service training institutions in three zones and strengthening management of three zonal health training institutes in Tanzania

The Dutch government through the Hanze University Groningen will support the Tanzanian government in the coming three years (2009-2011) to improve the training of midlevel health workers in three zones in Tanzania. The project will be carried out throught the Ministry of Health of Tanzania. The project will focus on curriculum change towards problem based learning; initiation of Skillslab training; improve quality assurance measures; enhance use of ICT and improve management skills.

The intervention will be directed at three out of eight zonal health training centres which are considered to be the most disadvantaged: Eastern Side (Morogoro), Western Zone (Kigoma), and Lake Zone (Mwanza).

The coordinating centre of the KMTC-VVOB Skillslab Expansion Project in Kenya (SNACC - Skillslab National Coordination Centre) will participate as a partner in the implementation of this project. Other partners are Support and Information Networks Tanzania Netherlands (SINTAN), Tanzania Information Point Consultancy (TIP), and University of Groningen - Wenckebach Skills Centre UMCG.

A first meeting was held in February to identify suitable staff and install governing committees in Tanzania. From 31st March until 3rd April a four day workshop will take place on Zanzibar, Tanzania, to operationalize the project.
