Education for Sustainable Development in Practice: From Vision to Classroom Practice

Summary

This publication documents the development and implementation of Ecuador’s Education and Training for Work Programme (EFTP), a national effort to modernise technical and vocational education by linking classroom learning with real-world labour market needs. It highlights VVOB’s collaboration with the Ministry of Education and national partners to establish a coherent framework for technical education reform — from policy design to classroom practice.

The report presents practical experiences from schools and teachers engaged in the reform, illustrating how EFTP has fostered competency-based learning, stronger partnerships with industry, and improved alignment between education and employment. It also details how curriculum transformation, teacher training, and institutional management reforms are helping to professionalise technical education and prepare students for sustainable work and entrepreneurship.
