Protocol for Addressing Situations of Pregnancy, Maternity, and Paternity in Technical Education

Summary

This protocol offers practical guidance to teachers, school leaders, and education authorities in Ecuador on how to manage and support cases of pregnancy, maternity, and paternity among students in technical upper secondary education. Developed under VVOB’s Educación y Formación Técnica y Profesional (EFTP), it promotes inclusive, rights-based approaches that protect students’ access to education and prevent early school leaving.

The publication defines procedures for identifying, accompanying, and supporting pregnant students and young parents, ensuring that educational institutions comply with national policies on gender equity and child protection. It includes clear roles and responsibilities for school staff, strategies for collaboration with families and social services, and templates for monitoring and reporting cases. By prioritising dignity, confidentiality, and academic continuity, the protocol strengthens schools’ capacity to uphold students’ educational rights.
