Summary
Building on a successful pilot in Mchinji District, VVOB and TaRL Africa are scaling a Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) remediation programme to 300 schools across three districts in Malawi. The goal is to test whether this level-appropriate approach to literacy and numeracy can be delivered with fidelity, cost-effectiveness and equity through government systems, and ultimately become a fully government-owned model ready for national scale-up.
This summary brief for Malawi's Ministry of Education, Science and Technology outlines the programme's technical model, workplan, systems-strengthening approach and evidence framework, including an independent impact evaluation led by Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA). Download the brief to see how the programme is generating the evidence needed to inform national adoption and future financing decisions.
