Theoretical Framework on Art Inspired Pedagogy

Rapid urbanisation in cities such as Da Nang, Vietnam has created unique social and developmental challenges for young learners, including limited access to green spaces and increased levels of stress. To address these ‘urban barriers’, VVOB, in collaboration with national and international experts, has developed a comprehensive theoretical framework on the use of Art-Inspired Pedagogy (AIP) in early childhood education.

This publication combines a global literature review with practical evidence from the CITIES project, which involved 29 schools and nearly 100 educators across Vietnam. AIP leverages visual and performing arts not as end goals in themselves, but as powerful tools to deepen engagement, foster creativity, and strengthen social-emotional skills. Designed for school leaders and teachers, this guide offers a clear roadmap for integrating playful, art-based learning into the national curriculum. It aims to create joyful classrooms that support every child’s holistic development and prepare them for a changing urban landscape.
