Our Partners in Zambia

VVOB strengthens education through partnerships. We work within existing education systems, led by the Ministry of Education and its institutions. Depending on the country, we also collaborate with universities, teacher education institutions, civil society organisations, and more.

Our Approach to Partnerships

In Zambia, VVOB works hand in hand with the Ministry of Education. We don’t build parallel systems — we strengthen what already exists. Together, we design professional development and remedial education programmes that fit the Ministry’s structures, so teachers and school leaders have lasting support. Our approach is built on mutual learning, evidence that works in practice, and reforms that endure beyond any single project.

Government Partners

The Ministry of Education is VVOB’s closest partner in Zambia. As the national authority on education, the Ministry ensures that reforms are sustainable and reach every learner.

Our primary focal point in the Ministry is the Directorate of Teacher Education and Specialised Services supporting the professional development of teachers. We closely collaborate with other directorates such as the Directorate of Open and Distance Education (DODE), the Directorate of Primary Education, the Directorate of Early Childhood Education and others that connect education to wider national development priorities. These partnerships ensure innovation is anchored within government structures.

VVOB also works with Zambia’s Universities and Colleges of Education and other training providers to equip teachers with the skills to deliver quality education. Together, we strengthen both initial teacher education and in-service professional development, ensuring teachers are prepared to meet learners’ needs.

Collaborating Partners

Civil society organisations bring local knowledge and community reach. Partners such as Zambia Open Community Schools (ZOCS) and Zambian National Education Coalition (ZANEC) ensure reforms are inclusive and reach children in the most vulnerable contexts.

VVOB also works with international expertise organisations, including TaRL Africa, Pratham, World Vision and UNICEF, to strengthen remedial education nationwide. Through our collaboration with the Education Above All Foundation (EAA) and Gooru, we are piloting digital solutions to re-engage out-of-school adolescents. Foundations and institutions such as the LEGO Foundation, Co-Impact, the Government of Belgium, and the Hempel Foundation provide long-term support for Zambia’s system-strengthening reforms.

Partner With Us

VVOB’s work in Zambia is only possible thanks to these strong partnerships. By working within national systems and building long-term relationships, we make good practice stick — from classroom level to national policy.
