The Blue DOT features articles showcasing activities and areas of interest of the UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP). Issue 13 features an article written by Maud Seghers, VVOB Senior Education Advisor: 'If Teachers’ Action is to Express New Priorities, Then Who and What Can Support Teachers to Act in New Ways?'
Issue 13 of The Blue DOT aims to propose new ways of looking at education systems in terms of content, evaluation and assessments, pedagogy, the role of the teacher, and capturing and integrating voices of the youth in education systems. The inspiring solutions and ideas proposed in this Issue are based on evidence and backed by the sciences in our interconnected, interdependent world.
The introduction to the article written by VVOB's Maud Seghers reads: "For future education systems to facilitate human flourishing and make children more empathetic, compassionate, and kinder towards themselves and towards each other and the planet, those same systems will need to ensure that teachers also flourish. Teachers form the very backbone of today’s and tomorrow’s education systems and if the hope is that they will act with sincere concern for the learning progress of each child – where “learning” is “whole-brain” – then they, in turn, deserve the sincere concern of everyone with high hopes for that brighter future. Without it, moving beyond the rhetoric will simply not happen. But what could such sincere concern for teachers look like for governments, donors, and their implementing partners?" (pages 24-27)
